Lucky Bucky Clothing

What is the Lucky Bucky® Clothing - “Pony Up – ‘Cause You Care” Campaign?

The equine community has been impacted by tough economic challenges over the past year.  With job losses and shrinking budgets, horse owners have suffered and equine therapy and rescue group have been hit hard as donations have become scarce.
With the “Pony Up - ‘Cause You Care” campaign, Lucky Bucky® Clothing’s goal in 2010 is to help underfunded equine-related charities by providing tools to help create successful fundraisers.  LBC will seek out registered, nonprofit organizations that offer equine-related therapy for mentally and physically challenged people or provide horse adoption or relocation programs.
It’s time to “Pony Up” and help those in need.  Lucky Bucky® will provide each selected organization with six dozen custom printed t-shirts at no cost with the “Pony Up - ‘Cause You Care” logo along with the organization’s logo.  This represents a value of over $1500.  LBC’s website will also offer “Fun” Raiser Tips” to help organizations maximize their fund raising efforts.
Lucky Bucky® is reaching out to the equine community through trade publications, Facebook, its website and retailers for help in getting the word out.  “Pony Up - ‘Cause You Care.”

If your organization qualifies, Lucky Bucky® Clothing will provide at no cost Six Dozen Tees, a $1500 value, For Your Next Fund Raiser.

“Fun” Raiser Tips: Charity Begins in the Barn!

Organization’s & Their Great Ideas for Fun Raisers.

“Ride for Joy” was our first tee grant and they have really put a lot into their efforts. Check their website out: www.rideforjoy.org for other great ideas. I really liked this one because it included a local business that was able to make their fund raiser even more successful.

“Ride for Joy” Please join us for the 3rd annual Christmas in July on Saturday, July 31st from 9 am to 5 pm at Flynn’s Saddle Shop. Purchase anything from a bale of shavings to a bag of alfalfa pellets and help fill a trailer with presents for the wonderful Ride for Joy horses. Shop for yourself and help Ride for Joy, too – Flynn’s will make a generous donation of 5% of the day’s sales to Ride for Joy (excluding consignment, feed, farrier and sale items).

Horse Soccer
Narrow Gate Youth Ranch is hosting a Horse Soccer Tournament as a fundraiser. What fun for the horses, riders and the rest of the family that gets to watch from their lawn chairs! Teams are encouraged to raise money outside their entry fee and the team with the largest donations receives a prize. I have never played but sounds like a fund day to me.
Check their organization out at: www.ngyr.org

Kissing Booth
I ran across a photo of a mini-donkey that was charging money for kisses! Of course it was all for a good cause and I thought it was such a cute idea to add to a days’ event.

Dog & Pony Show: Reins of Life
This event includes fun for the entire family even including the dog, all for a good cause.
Includes: Dog walk & obstacle course, Horse Demonstrations, Seminars, Vendors, Food, Silent Auction, Kiddie Korral, Mini Horse/donkey booth and more will be available.
Check out their website: www.reinsoflife.org

Miles for Mini’s Fall Fest: Triple H. Miniature Horse Rescue
Includes something for everyone and lot’s of “Fun Raising” opportunities. Starting with food, carnival games, pony rides, petting zoo, hay rides, clown and face painting, kiddie train, inflatable jumping, stick pony rodeo, info booth on horse care, raffle, door prizes, and vendors.  Demonstrations on sheep shearing, horse massage, cow milking plus entertainment.
Check out their website: www.hhhmhr.org

Boo! at the Barn: Horse Haven of Tennessee
The stalls are decorated and horses are costumed by volunteers. People coming to the barn could “trick or treat” the horses with apples and carrots given by kids at the stalls in their costumes. As people leave the barn they voted on their favorite stall and that stall was given a prize. They also set up a donation “fun raiser jar” for everyone to leave a donation on the way out. Sounds like a very fun Halloween to me!

Mane Course: Horse Haven of Tennessee
This is a great idea and can be implemented in any community. Invite local companies or private individuals to throw you a party at their home or facility! They can host a dinner, lunch, brunch, horse show, or get-together of their choosing. The local charity would present a video or presentation and explain the organization’s mission. The goal is to raise awareness and money for your organization. Of course the more parties and events the more money you can raise. Check out their website: www.horsehaven.net

Barn Tours: This is a new twist on the open house.  Invite the public to come by for a day of activities.  A volunteer can take pictures of your guests with your most photogenic horses and charge $5 per photo. Use your “Pony Up” tees as door prizes to the first so many people that show up and sell the rest. Invite a local Veterinarian to come in and participate in a “most asked questions” discussion.  Bring in an expert for a safety clinic at the barn. The idea is to make the event fun and informative and interesting for the whole family.

Charity Rides: This is probably the most common equine fund raiser and for a great reason, we all like to ride! These are usually well attended and you have other opportunities to raise funds than just the gate fee.  Besides the usual Chili or BBQ dinner you could get a few nice items donated and sell raffle tickets.  The “Pony Up” tees could be included in your gate fee or separate, depending on what you think the traffic will bear.  You can also use them for door prizes and make sure your group is wearing them at the event.

Partner With Local Retailers: Your local tack, feed or clothing store has a facility, customers, and can be a great partner for your event.  If you don’t have a local feed store or equine retailer maybe a grocery store would help you. It’s always nice to have visuals like posters or flyers at your fund raiser event so the consumers can see the facility and beneficiaries (people and horses).  The grocery store could add a dollar to the grocery total until a set amount is achieved.  You also could set up a table and hand out information and sell the “Pony Up” tees.

Auctions: An auction is only as good as the pieces donated.  To maximize your event you could have collection events for auction items until you feel you have collected enough for the big auction.  One idea is, “Give Us Your Old Tack For A New Tee” or a Truck/Trailer washing event in exchange for cash or used tack donations. If your local car wash has self serve bays this would be a great place for people to bring in their tack for a bath and raise some cash.

Contests:   This can be a great way to raise money. You could create a day of fun events and charge a cover fee or charge by the event. There are all kinds of equine-themed fun things you can do:
Horseshoes – Guess the weight of a horse – feed sack race – muck out a stall race– rubber ducks in a water trough with numbers on the bottom for prizes – guess how many apples are in a bushel basket (of course these make great horse treats after the event) – have a photo board for entrants to post their favorite horse picture, and vote on the best photo with each vote costing a dollar. If you have a facility you could offer horse riding events. You are only limited by your imagination.

Adoption Days:  Find a partner that has the exterior space and animal lover customer base for good traffic.  You could set up a round pen and bring some of the horses that need adoption. The event could raise money for your facility and just may get one of your horses a good home. Tack – Feed - Equine Retailer or Vets would make great event partners.  It’s good business for them to give back to the community and you both win.

Publicity Tips:  Most markets have a local newspaper and radio station personalities that would be glad to help promote your event.  Just make sure you schedule out far enough to get on their calendar.  After your event, follow up with the local media and let them post the good news too. That helps you in the future and gives you more exposure for your organization.  In addition to the media, don’t forget to promote your cause at local churches,  civic clubs and other organizations.
